What is “KidsFoodPak”?

“KidsFoodPak” is a program set up by volunteers to help make sure kids get healthy food on the weekends.

How do you decide which kids get a“KidsFoodPak”?
The school teachers and counsellors identify kids that are likely to need this kind of food assistance.

How does “KidsFoodPak” actually work for the kids?
The kids receive their “KidsFoodPak” on Friday after school to take home with them. They must return the empty backpack by the following Monday in order to participate the following weekend.

Who buys the food for “KidsFoodPak”?
Food is supplied by volunteers with the “KidsFoodPak” and those who donate food at our drop-off locations.

Where are the drop-off locations?
We presently have 5 locations.
• Hope Center (12th & Kalmia in Sweet Home)
• The Sweet Home Charter School (28721 Liberty Rd., Sweet Home)
• Periwinkle Provisions
(1101 Main Street, Sweet Home)
• Sweet Home Mennonite Church
(1266 44th Avenue, Sweet Home)
• Community Chapel
(42250 Ames Creek Road, Sweet Home)

How can I help?
We accept food donations, financial help and we’re always looking for volunteers. (More information on how to get involved here.)

What if you don’t want to commit to preparing a backpack on a weekly basis but would still like to be involved?
You can buy food that is on the suggested food list (see here) and bring the items to our food pantry that the Hope Center has allowed us to house in their basement. (12th & Kalmia). We would like to get as many people as possible in our community to get involved with this program.

Why are you doing this?
Some of us know what it is like to go hungry as kids...what most of us didn’t know was that there are kids going hungry in our community. (More information on the people behind "KidsFoodPak" here.)

What's the Latest at KidsFoodPak?

We are currently sending out 140 backpacks each week, which is always bitter sweet. We are so happy to be a part of something so amazing, but at the same time, sad to know that there are so many kids suffering!

What Others Say...

"The food pack program has been wonderful for my student. She started the year with very poor attendance and since the backpacks her attendance has improved tremendously."
